Tutorials are similar to reading from a book for skills. It's not until you take that information and apply it in a different context, and on your own, that you really get to learn the skill. I agree, do the tutorial and then do it more on your own and within a different context.

Guilty as charged! I lived in tutorial hell for a long long time. It gives you a false sense of accomplishment and is totally not worth it.
- Learn the foundations fast
- Build something and learn rest of it as you go
